This Netsuke hand carved dragon is absolutely outstanding!
The attention to detail in this carving is second to none - every aspect of this mythical creature is explored - the facial features, the scales, the mouth and teeth and the detail on the feet.
Check out the underneath - the dragon's feet and claws are so detailed.
Netsuke are miniature sculptures that were invented in 17th-century Japan to serve a practical function - They are compact three-dimensional figures carved in a round shape and are usually around one to three inches high.
This dragon looks just like the fantasy books and films portray dragons.
The eyes are made from small pieces of agate.
It has also been signed on the underneath.
It is in very good condition and a fabulously formed piece - a real talking point!
It weighs 34.1 grams.
It measures 45mm across by 30mm down - that's 1 1/4 inches by 2 inches.
