Netsuke is a small Japanese carved ornament, once used to fasten small objects (e.g. a purse or pouch for tobacco, medicines etc.) to a sash, worn round the waist, in traditional costume.This hand carved frog is fabulous - there is so much detail carved into this wonderful creature.The eyes are small pieces of agate.It appears to be sitting on some kind of flat basket.The frog is signed on the bottom, where the detail is still second to none.In very good condition it looks almost lifelike!A must for all you frog lovers out there!It weighs 17 grams.It measures 47mm across by 25mm down - that's 1 3/4 inches by 1 inch.Old Code 2152.
