This stunning Victorian style large sterling silver marcasite & Amethyst paste insect pendant is so lovely.The pendant is set with a large amethyst paste stone for its body.The beautiful pendant is adorned with sparkling marcasites which glisten like Diamonds.The Amethyst gemstone is a jewel coveted by princes both ecclesiastical and secular.The greeks believed Amethyst gems could prevent intoxication, while medieval European soldiers wore Amethyst amulets as protection in battle.This lovely pendant is in very good condition and looks fabulous when worn.It weighs 7.7 grams.The Amethyst paste stone is 10mm across and 20 mm down - that's just under 1/2 an inch by just over 3/4 of an inch.The dimensions of the brooch are 40mm across and down - that's approximately 1 1/2 inches.
