This genuine Tortoise shell inlaid gold brooch is Circa 1900.The brooch is inlaid with 18ct yellow gold.Tortoise shell was widely used in the Victorian era for making beautiful jewellery - the use of tortoise shell was banned from the 1970's because tortoises were considered an endangered species.Pique is a form of weaving and this brooch is weaved with inlaid gold.This brooch has a metal bar and c catch.Tortoise shell items are highly collectable and sought after woldwide - this is a real collectors piece.In very good condition, it looks fabuous when worn.It weighs 10.7 grams.It measures 42mm all round - that's just under 1 3/4 inches.
