This Victorian shell cameo brooch is fabulous.It is 18ct gilded on silver which really livens up the deep brown of the cameo.The brooch is hand carved from bull mouth shell hand carved high relief workmanship, a mythological scene, very well executed with a smooth feel, typical of the circa 1860's cameo, this is all original with a gold safety chain.
The cameo conjures up an amusing tale - it depicts what looks like a naughty cherub having his bow and arrows taken off him - what has he done to deserve this punishment? - he does not look very happy!The attention to detail is amazing as is the fantastic Victorian workmanship.It weighs 4.7 grams.It measures 25mm by 30mm - that's 1 inch by 1 1/4 inches.Old Code 4159.
